Zeste 1.6: import without leaving Instagram, and six languages
Share a reel to Zeste and keep scrolling: the recipe shows up on its own, with a notification. And Zeste now speaks English, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese, right down to the widgets.
Until now, saving a recipe you saw on Instagram meant leaving the reel, opening Zeste and waiting for the recipe card. With versions 1.6 and 1.6.1, the import runs in the background, and Zeste opens up to five new languages.
Share › Zeste, and keep scrolling
On an Instagram reel, a TikTok or a YouTube video, tap Share, then Zeste. A small "Import started" card appears and you're back where you were. Meanwhile, Zeste reads the video, and a notification tells you when the recipe is ready: one tap opens it in your cookbook.
It works on iPhone and Android alike, and also from Safari or your browser, for any recipe page. If the recipe is already in your cookbook, Zeste tells you instead of importing it a second time. If the import fails, the notification says so too, and one tap retries it in the app with the link.
On iPhone, if Zeste doesn't appear in the row of apps, tap More at the end of the row to add it. A shared import counts as a regular import.
Zeste speaks six languages
Version 1.6 opened English, and 1.6.1 adds Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese. A new account follows your phone's language; to change it, go to Profile › Language in the app, or Settings on the web.
The language doesn't just change the menus: imported recipes are written in your language, even when the video is in another one, and Chef Zeste, the Magic Fridge and the cellar's pairings answer you in yours. The "Tonight's menu" and "My shopping list" widgets follow, as do the website and the Chrome extension, also in six languages.
A new welcome screen, and a sturdier app
The app's first screen shows in video what Zeste does: a reel that turns into a recipe card, with no text to read, the same video in every language.
Under the hood, the offline cookbook, shopping list check marks made without signal, widgets and pending shares are saved more safely on your phone. The cookbook refreshes as soon as you come back to the app, so a recipe imported from the Share menu is there right away. And some plurals that sounded wrong have been fixed.
How to get it
Importing without leaving Instagram, TikTok or YouTube and the translated widgets need version 1.6.1 of the app, which is arriving on the App Store and Google Play. Everything is free.
In case you missed it: cooking robot mode arrived at the end of October. Pick your Thermomix, Monsieur Cuisine, Companion or Cookeo in Profile › Units and cooking robot, and Zeste weighs everything in grams and rewrites the steps with your robot's settings.
