Zeste 1.5: widgets, store mode and seasonal recipes
Your meals and your shopping list on the home screen, a store mode that works offline, a pantry that lightens the list, and Zeste suggesting what's next in the kitchen.
Until now, Zeste waited for you to open it. With version 1.5, it comes to you: on the home screen, in the chilled aisle, and the day before a recipe that needs a head start.
Two widgets on the home screen
"Tonight's menu" shows the next meal of your week, with its photo and prep time: lunch until 3 p.m., dinner after that. One tap opens the recipe.
"My shopping list" shows what's left to buy, in aisle order. You can check off an item right from the widget, without opening the app (on iPhone, from iOS 17). The widgets follow the household's meal plan and switch to dark mode with your phone.
Store mode
In the shopping list, the Store mode button shows one aisle at a time, in large type, and keeps the screen on. Aisles follow the order of your store: move them once, Zeste remembers.
At the back of the store, the signal often drops. Check marks are saved on the phone and sent as soon as the connection returns. If someone in your household does the other half of the shopping, their check marks appear on your phone within seconds.
My pantry, and a list that finally groups things
The salt, oil, pepper or soy sauce you always have at home have no business at the top of the list. Add them once to My pantry: they move to "Already at home", with a button to put them back the day the jar is empty. The pantry is shared with the household.
The list also groups the same products written differently. "2 garlic cloves" and "1 crushed garlic clove" fit on a single garlic line instead of two.
Zeste suggests what's next
After "I cooked this", Zeste looks at what's left of an opened package (half a pot of cream, 80 g of bacon lardons) and suggests two recipes from your cookbook to use it up. With Pro, the Magic Fridge also looks for an idea using those leftovers.
The day before a planned meal that needs a marinade, a soak, a dough that has to rise or defrosting, a notification at 8 p.m. reminds you. And on Wednesdays and Sundays, Zeste suggests a seasonal recipe from creators: add it to your cookbook in one tap, or dismiss it and it won't come back.
In December, a recap of your year in the kitchen will appear in your Profile: dishes cooked, your go-to classic, the ingredient of the year, ready to share as a story.
Also new
A recipe card can be printed as a PDF, with or without a photo. The wine cellar arrives in beta: snap the label, Zeste keeps the bottle; pairings with your recipes are for Pro. Imports are sturdier, especially for Facebook, ChatGPT links and shortened links.
Widgets and store mode require version 1.5 of the app, available on the App Store or Google Play. Everything is free, except the Magic Fridge, the Chef and wine cellar pairings.
